August 2009
Welcome to RES News, a newsletter from Research Enterprise Services, serving the administrative needs of numerous science units on campus. Look for this update every other month, and please keep an eye on res.berkeley.edu, where you can access all services and information.
In the next few months, we will be transitioning a number of research units into RES. Currently we are schedule to complete the transition at the end of November. We ask for your patience during this time while we bring on and train new staff.
In response to the many inquiries regarding guidelines on the program for faculty with research funding who wish to pay themselves for furlough days during the academic year, I am writing to confirm that we are still awaiting final program parameters from the Academic Personnel Office (APO). We will issue campus procedures as soon as this information is available. Please disregard any information regarding a September 1, 2009 deadline, this does not apply to RES units. We expect that the program implementation will occur sometime in September, and you can be assured that you will have sufficient time to review the proposed program and apply by the given time parameters.
More information on the furlough/salary reduction plan can be found at http://hrweb.berkeley.edu/budget/furlough/berkeley-faqs.htm.
Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost Breslauer's message to all academic titles dated August 24, 2009 regarding the furlough policy can be found at

REMINDER: Please feel free to share your comments and suggestions through the RES Investigator Feedback page. Postings go directly to me, and can be kept confidential if desired. I appreciate your help in ensuring RES provides exceptional service to our researchers.
Sincerely,
Diane Leite, Assistant Vice Chancellor, RES
